    The Dances of Universal Peace

    The Dances of Universal Peace are a sacred Universal Sufi Spiritual practice. They incorporate embodied movement, meditative practices in circle dances. They use mantric phrases, chants, music and movements from various spiritual traditions. They recognize the unity of spiritual ideals and bring people together to foster peace and understanding. They were created by Sufi Sam (Samuel L. Lewis) in the 1960s, who was influenced by the teachings of Sufi Master and musician, Hazrat Inayat Kahn and his dance teacher Ruth St. Denis.

    Introductory Universal Sufi Practices
    at A Mystic Haven:

    Come join us for a continuation of introduction to Universal Sufi Practices.

    We’ll be reviewing the 5 Elemental Breaths and Deepening into the Fire Breath this session. There will be time for short readings, meditative chant, and sharing circle.

    Please bring a cushion to sit on if you prefer to be seated on the ground. We do have chairs available as well.

    HALF DAY SUFI SESSHIN with Special Guest:
    Lyra Yarrow
    Come enjoy a half day of relaxing and deepening meditative practices in a variety of forms. Please see below for payment methods.
    Please bring a yoga mat, cushion for floor seating and your own bagged lunch (tea and water provided).

    10am – 10:40am: We will begin the day with a 40 min practice of Yoga led by Lyra Yarrow.
    11am – 12:30pm: Sufi Sesshin: Alternate between silent meditation and moving meditation practices. Silent meditation practices can take the form of 15 mins of sitting or walking meditations alternating with Dances of Universal Peace. Dances of Universal Peace are moving meditation practices that use global mantras and chants in embodiment with others.
    12:30 – 1pm: Silent Lunch: Bring a bagged lunch for a meal. Be with others in mindful presence while eating. Plates, cups and utensils will be available.
    1-2:00pm: Return back to Sufi Sesshin: Alternating between silent meditation and moving meditation.
    2-2:30pm: Bringing us back into and integration with a couple of mantric/global chants with Gigi on harmonium and Andrew on drums.

    More about Lyra Yarrow
    Lyra is a humanistic, highly sensitive teacher, dreamer, and magic-maker. She weaves together tools, teachings, healing modalities, and guidance that is intuitive and transformational. As a certified yoga teacher in a variety of modalities (Hatha, Kundalini, Yoga Nidra), Lyra offers highly effective form of yoga which utilizes postures that are designed to restore the body and mind in a very gentle way.

    More about Gigi (Nur Jihan) and Andrew (Sarmad): Both are practitioners and initiates of Universal Sufism and have incorporated various sound meditative experiences in community. Gigi Nur Jihan is certified leader of the Dances of Universal Peace, Global Chant leader, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, Life and Spiritual Coach and Holistic Counselor. Andrew Sarmad offers meditative sound baths sessions and an experienced percussionist who specializes in Indian, African & Middle Eastern drums & rhythms.
